Programme for the Ham Radio ConventionOn November 4, 2017, the 57th Ham Radio Convention (Dag voor de RadioAmateur, DvdRA) will again take place in The Netherlands. Organiser is VERON, the Dutch radio society. Besides the official part, “the Radio Amateur of (last) year 2016”, supported by the Scientific Radiofonds Veder will be nominated, and several lectures will be given. The homebrew exhibition, the AMRATO (Amateur radio equipment sales), and of course the VERON Components market (flea market). Several commissions and working groups are presenting their selves, we also again have a youngsters place. In this article you will find a brief overview of all you can find on November 4, in the Americahal in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands.

Opening times and entrance tickets sales

The Ham Radio Convention opens at 9.30 am and will last until 17.00 pm. Selling of the entrance tickets will start at 09.00 am. The entrance fee for members of the VERON is € 8, 00 only if they can show their VERON membership card. In all other cases the entrance fee will be € 9, 00 per person. As last year, entrance is free for youngsters under the age of 16, they can be asked for their identification.

Parking at the parking place of the hall will cost a fee of € 4,00 per vehicle. Exit parking tickets purchasing is at the entrance. VERON is not responsible for the parking policy on the parking place of the Americahal.

Lectures (subject to change)

Again this year, (at least 3) interesting presentations on subjects of different aspects about our hobby (in the Dutch language).

  • The construction and calculations for a top loaded vertical antenna for 160m, by Frans Hamelink, PA1NHZ.
  • Idzerda modulation with the device NSF 029, by Ed Plevier.
  • The change from AM/FM to DAB+ for broadcast stations, by Edwin Vos, PA3GVQ.

On-going activities

  • Presentation of different VERON commissions, workgroups and associated societies.
  • AMRATO, amateur radio equipment sales.
  • VROM, the VERON Components- and flea market.
  • Home brew exhibition, demonstrations and measuring facilities, one of the very successful aspects of this day. This part of the exhibition is absolutely worth visiting.
  • The youngsters place, to inform youngsters about techniques and the many aspects of our hobby.

Finding the Americahal

The address of the Americahal is: Laan van Erica 50, 7321 BX, Apeldoorn, Netherlands. The Americahal is easy to find: from the A50, you turn direction Apeldoorn at exit 24. Follow direction Apeldoorn , after a roundabout where you go straight-on, you turn to the left (traffic lights) (Laan van Erica), Americahal is already shown on a sign, after about 100 m you will see the hall on your right. Parking on the parking place of the Americahal will cost a fee of € 4,00 per vehicle.

The station PA6DRA can help finding you the way to the Americahal. PA6DRA is on the air starting from 09.00 o’clock from the Americahal, on 145.500 MHz there will be a special QSL card from this station. A small railway station is positioned, just at the opposite site of the road in front of the Americahal. This station, named “De Maten”, is situated at the line Apeldoorn – Zutphen. Walking time to the Americahal is 2-5 minutes.

Finally

If you find something interesting you want to buy, provide yourself with enough cash because there is no ATM machine in the Americahal. Be careful with your belongings, our experiences in de past, forces us to warn you for possible pickpockets. Smoking is prohibited on the entire premises of the Americahal. In the early morning it can be very busy on the roads to the Americahal.
